August is National Wellness Month.

August is National Wellness Month: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

At Saving Grace Medical Academy, we believe that wellness is more than a state of being—it's a commitment to self-care that supports not only our bodies, but our hearts, minds, and communities. This August, we proudly recognize National

Wellness Month, a time to renew our dedication to personal health and well-being. As my grandfather often said, “Healthy body, healthy mind.” It's a simple phrase, but one that carries profound truth—especially for our future nurses and frontline healthcare workers.

While we focus this month on wellness, it’s important to acknowledge that August is rich with other powerful awareness campaigns. From National Immunization Awareness Month, National Breastfeeding Month, and Small Business Month, to causes like Children’s Eye Health and Safety, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness, and Medic-Alert Awareness Month, each campaign reminds us of the diverse needs in our communities and the interconnectedness of public health.

The Link Between Physical and Mental Health

Nursing students are no strangers to physical and emotional stress. Long clinical hours, heavy study loads, and the emotional toll of patient care can leave many students drained. That’s why wellness must be intentional—you can't pour from an empty cup.

National Wellness Month.

Maintaining physical health isn't just about building strength or improving stamina; it's a vital piece of protecting your mental health. Regular exercise, proper sleep, nutrition, and hydration all contribute to emotional resilience, focus, and mental clarity. Research consistently shows that physically active individuals experience fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression, and often report better overall life satisfaction.

Why National Wellness Month Matters to You

Whether you're learning to perform CPR, managing a code blue, or simply getting through your day-to-day coursework, your body is the tool that carries you. Like any tool, it must be cared for. When your body is strong, your mind follows. You'll study more effectively, handle stress more calmly, and bring your best self to your patients and your practice.

This month, we invite you—our students, instructors, and extended community—to take time for yourself. That might mean going for a walk, prepping healthy meals, reaching out to a counselor, or simply giving yourself permission to rest. Wellness is not selfish—it’s essential.
