Winter is coming, Edmonton! ❄️ Even nurses need to prepare for Alberta's cold. Stay warm, stay safe, and be winter-ready!

Winter Is Coming! Get ready Nursing Students for cold weather injuries:

October 2026 | Saving Grace Medical Academy | Edmonton, Alberta

As October winds down, Edmonton residents know what's coming next: colder mornings, frosty windshields, icy sidewalks, and another Alberta winter!

Winter Is Coming At Saving Grace Medical Academy, we're reminding our students, healthcare professionals, and community members that a little preparation goes a long way toward staying warm, healthy, and safe this winter.

Forget the Iron Throne, we've got the Stethoscope Throne!

Winter is coming, Edmonton! ❄️ From dressing in layers to recognizing cold-weather emergencies, these five simple tips will help you prepare for another Alberta winter.

5 Simple Tips for Staying Warm This Winter

  1. Dress in layers. Wear moisture-wicking clothing close to your skin, add an insulating layer, and finish with a wind-resistant outer layer.

  2. Protect your hands, feet, and head. Warm gloves, insulated footwear, and a winter hat help reduce heat loss during Edmonton's coldest days.

  3. Keep an emergency winter kit. Store extra blankets, warm clothing, a flashlight, and basic first aid supplies in your vehicle.

  4. Watch for slippery conditions. Ice can appear unexpectedly on sidewalks, parking lots, and stairs. Wear footwear with good traction and take your time.

  5. Know the warning signs of cold exposure. Persistent shivering, numbness, confusion, or unusual drowsiness can indicate a cold-related emergency. Move somewhere warm and seek appropriate medical assistance.

To Our Nursing Students: You're Almost There!

As October comes to a close, many nursing and healthcare students are approaching the end of their fall clinical rotations.

We know how much dedication, studying, and hard work goes into your healthcare education, and we're cheering you on as you finish this important stage of your training!

To those preparing for their next clinical placement or entering the healthcare workforce, remember to check that your Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid & CPR, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications meet your program or employer's requirements.
